Kottayam.Minister for Rural Development K.C. Joseph said at kottayam on August 2 that
the State government would ensure the completion of the EMS Housing Scheme. More funds would be sought in order to provide affordable houses to the homeless under the Indira Awaz Yojana (IAY).He added that the State government has received approval for certain changes in the norms of the Centrally-sponsored schemes.He was speaking after the block-level inauguration of the projects that would be undertaken under the State government's 100-day programme at Ettumanur.
Mr. Joseph said that both the Central government and the Planning Commission had recently provided the necessary sanction to modify various projects. The demand for changes in the norms was made considering the existing circumstances in the State. He also said that the Central government was mulling over the proposal of extending the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to 49 sectors.
