The cabinet has decided to start a weekly lottery named Mangalya, to mobilize fund for providing marriage assistance to girls from poor families, said the CM while briefing the Cabinet decisions here today. An existing lottery will be renamed as Mangalya and the profit from the same will be remitted in Mangalya Nidhi.
Persons belonging to the BPL category and APL families having an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh will be given Rs 30,000 from the scheme. The scheme was announced in the last budget itself. The decision to start a lottery was taken as the CESS collected was not enough to run the scheme.
The financial assistance from Mangalya Nidhi would be given to the deserved after approval from a committee constituted in each district with the district collector as its chairman. Social Justice Department would be the nodal agency for implementing the project.
